SONA 2026: DELIVERING REFORMS FOR THE FILIPINO PEOPLE
Beyond the Podium: Weighing Promises Against Real Progress for the Filipino Nation
By: Sir Edz
In the fifth of his State of the Nation Addresses (SONA), President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. presented a clear plan for the remainder of his term. At a speech given to the Batasang Pambansa, he placed anti-corruption, economic recovery, and national sovereignty right at the heart of his programme—once again showing his dedication to achieving real and tangible benefits for ordinary Filipinos.
The recent scandals concerning flood control and the existence of so-called "ghost projects" revealed a very frustrating misappropriation of public money. In anger at the sight of tax payments being wasted, the citizens went onto the streets to call for real accountability. President Marcos dealt directly with these complaints by vowing to launch a strong anti-corruption drive. The administration intends to stop systematic abuse by making sure officials are held to account and that taxpayers' money is actually used for genuine infrastructure.
Because inflation has increased the cost of everyday items, many families have found it difficult to keep up with their daily expenses—describing it as an ongoing struggle uphill.
In order to deal with the situation, the administration's plan centres on providing immediate help by pushing for reasonable wage increases and giving the middle class some specific tax relief. The aim is simple enough: to ensure that working families can afford to buy food without being crushed by both rising prices and taxes.
"Speeches are only worthwhile if they result in action. People must remain informed, watchful, and involved."
With regard to national security, Marcos has stressed his dedication to protecting Philippine territory and maintaining peace. By strengthening diplomatic relations and building strategic partnerships, including continued cooperation with international allies such as the United States, the country is clearly taking a stand against foreign intrusion. The message is straightforward: our territorial integrity is not open to discussion.
SONA 2026 presents an aspirational vision for the rest of the presidential term, but speeches are only worthwhile if they result in action. As the government strives to turn these aims into real progress, it is still important for the public to have its voice heard. People must remain informed, watchful, and involved if they are to keep leaders accountable and ensure that their promises are actually fulfilled.

The Connected Nation: 85% of Filipinos Are Now Online, According to New Survey
By: Sir Edz
Filipinos are living in an increasingly digital world. According to a recent Pulse Asia survey, 85% of adult Filipinos are now connected to the internet. This massive shift highlights how technology continues to bring people closer together, bridging distances like never before.
In previous years, staying in touch was a major struggle for people living in rural, mountainous, and island communities. Due to limited coverage and geography, families in remote areas had to go out of their way just to catch a weak cell signal. Today, however, internet service providers (ISPs) and technology companies are actively working together to expand network infrastructure across the country.
By building more cell towers and leveraging modern solutions, providers are helping ensure that every Filipino stays connected. Satellite internet technologies, such as Starlink, are playing a critical role in solving long-standing connectivity issues in far-flung areas where traditional fiber optic cables cannot reach. By offering low-orbit satellite broadband with speeds of over a hundred megabytes per second (Mbps), technology is modernizing lives and making communication effortless compared to the past.
The benefits of a connected nation became even clearer during the pandemic. Technology became an indispensable tool for students attending online classes, teachers relying on modern printers and digital channels to distribute learning materials, and local businesses transitioning online. Social media platforms also became essential tools for communication between schools, teachers, and students to keep education moving forward.
"As we enjoy seamless connectivity, we must remain vigilant against online scams and cyber threats."
Ultimately, technology serves as a vital bridge that keeps communities united. However, as internet access becomes a part of daily life, it is equally important for netizens to use these digital tools responsibly. As we enjoy seamless connectivity, we must remain vigilant against online scams and cyber threats, ensuring that the internet remains a safe space for helping and communicating with one another.
Stay Connected and Stay Vigilant.
